Therapeutic fasting

Therapeutic fasting is divided into:
1) short-term (1-3-5-7 days);
2) long-term (4-5-6 weeks);
3) full, during which only mineral water (still) or herbal tea is drunk;
4) half-fasts, which consist in drinking fruit or vegetable juices (so-called “green juices”) and milk.
Specialists in “starvation therapy” emphasize that therapy should include two stages:
intermittent fasting;
recovery.

Long-term fasting really works better, but given the risk associated with them, they should be used only under the supervision of experienced specialists. During fasting, you can drink clean water with lemon juice in the amount of 1.5-2 liters per day and be sure to do an enema (0.5 liters) every day or every other day.

Noticeable therapeutic results can be achieved by applying 5-7-day fasting, but with prior medical consultation, and we do not recommend fasting for excessively thin people. However, everyone can fast once a week without harm to health, arrange for yourself “fruit days”, “vegetable days” or “green juice days”.

The course of fasting can be quite diverse. The feeling of hunger usually disappears between the 3rd and 5th days of fasting (not to be confused with the appetite of people who are immoderate in food). In the first case, edema disappears, which is manifested in easier urination, and high blood pressure drops to normal. Capillary vessels, cleared of metabolic products, work more productively, improving blood supply to the brain and other organs. The result is a feeling of lightness, a desire for creative work, and a surge of energy gives rise to a desire for physical effort.

However, the course of treatment is not always like this. Dr. Bircher-Benner wrote that fat people tolerate hunger worse. He explains this fact by the fact that they have a large amount of adipose tissue, which burns under the influence of hunger, and the combustion products, getting into the blood, poison the body. On the 3rd-5th day of fasting, acidity increases, and the state of health often worsens (headache, general weakness and even vomiting). After the “breakthrough” (and this usually happens between the 7th and 10th days of treatment), the state of health suddenly improves and the so-called “stage of adaptation” begins, when the bactericidal properties of the blood increase, which, by the way, under the influence of “acidification” had a detrimental effect on some types of bacteria, which has been repeatedly confirmed by experiments.

After a 10-day fast, you need to consult a doctor, because the so-called “hunger dystrophy” or depletion of the body may occur, which is unacceptable. However, with proper treatment, this does not happen and you can continue fasting without harm to your health. Clean the “coated” tongue daily with a wooden stick.

During fasting, the liver plays a major role as an “excreting” and “cleansing” organ. With the help of bile, it removes residual metabolic products and toxins that the body has acquired during an unusual lifestyle. It often happens that the secretions of a fasting person suddenly acquire a specific color and smell, reminiscent of the medicines they once used; so only now does the body eliminate these toxins. Therefore, during a longer fast (or fasting), the amount of fluids received by the body (using enemas) that help remove toxins from it is of great importance. It is surprising that even after 10-12 days, a fairly large amount of feces and mucous masses are removed with the help of an enema.

Opinions differ regarding the duration of fasting. Dr. Hein believes that fasting is necessary for 4-6 weeks to completely free the body from the accumulated metabolic “cigarette butts”. However, at the same time, he emphasizes that excellent results can be achieved in just four weeks.

Dr. Glatzel claims that three weeks are enough. Suvorin, who was not a doctor, but became famous for his skillfully conducted fasting, believed that fasting should be continued until the tongue is cleansed, the bad breath disappears and the feeling of hunger returns. This lasts an average of six weeks, but he advised weaker patients to fast for three weeks. He attached great importance to the mental instructions of the fasting person. A person who knows the purpose and meaning of this psycho-physical “adventure” will fast longer.
According to Verland, fasting is the main path to health. He believes that even very thin people should not be afraid of fasting. If these people, despite the large amounts of food consumed, are thin, then the reasons for this should be sought in “tired digestive organs” that are unable to properly utilize nutrients. In his opinion, the key to this problem lies in the “capacity for assimilation”, which affects body weight.

After the end of fasting and during the transition to a lacto-vegetarian diet, one should be careful. Verland suggests drinking a glass of fresh sour milk on the first day after fasting. It should be “eaten” with a spoon and swallowed only after it is mixed with saliva. For a vow, you can eat a small portion of mashed potatoes with blueberries, adding a spoonful of sour cream to it. Dinner can consist of rice boiled in water with blueberries and a glass of sour milk.

In general, doctors recommend ending fasting when, for example, the total amount of protein in the blood plasma decreases and is below 60 g/l, or when the total nitrogen excretion increases with reduced urea excretion, or when there is a decrease in ST on the electrocardiogram. A sign is also the cleansing of the tongue and the return of the feeling of hunger.

You should not worry about a certain deterioration in the appearance of the skin (spots, wrinkles, rashes), because after the end of treatment - during the so-called "reconstruction stage" - the skin restores its elasticity, and patients perceive this phenomenon as a wonderful rejuvenation! The spiritual sphere is also reborn. Interestingly, during fasting, avitaminosis does not appear!

You should switch to a normal diet after treatment carefully, not suddenly. This stage is called "reconstruction".

On the first day after the fast, the patient receives a grated apple, a little dried fruit soaked in water, rosehip tea, and the next day - mashed potatoes, grated carrots, kefir - all in small quantities. Starting from the third day, the patient can eat some vegetables, fruits, potatoes, kefir and crispbread. In the following days, figs soaked in water, nuts, oatmeal mousse, and yogurt are added.

After treatment, the patient should switch to a permanent dairy-vegetarian diet and give up meat and fish. This will help him avoid relapses of the disease.
