Human activity can be divided into two categories - physical and mental.

* Mental activity is associated with mental processes during which a person plans his actions, operating with images and language symbols.
A person in activity acts as a person who has certain motives and intended goals. A feature of this type of work is its pronounced tiring effect, which is due to long-term contraction and tension of the muscles, the lack of conditions for blood circulation, as a result of which the final and intermediate products of metabolism accumulate. This very quickly leads to the development of fatigue.
Dynamic work is associated with the movement of parts of the body or the whole body in space. As a result, the energy expended during such work is converted into mechanical and thermal. Dynamic muscle contractions are intermittent in nature, which contributes to full blood supply and oxygen exchange, and this, in turn, leads to less fatigue.
Muscle performance also depends on the amount of load - the greater it is, the faster the muscles get tired. To perform physical work, it is very important to find average values of the rhythm and load. This will help increase productivity and reduce the period of fatigue (fatigue will come later).
During the work of any part of the body, more blood flows to it than at rest. The more work the muscles do, the more nutrients and oxygen will flow to them with the help of blood. The more physical labor, physical culture, sports, the faster muscle fibers grow, the stronger the person becomes. Physical exercises have a good effect on the whole body, strengthen health, harden the person, make him able to withstand various adverse environmental influences.
Physical exertion causes the activation of metabolic processes. With intense exertion, the minute volume of the heart increases 6 times compared to the state of rest, the amount of oxygen absorption - 3 times. As a result, the supply of oxygen to the tissues increases 18 times.
The amount of physical work depends on the specific professional activity, the characteristics of the person, the degree of fitness, physical development, etc.
As soon as a person starts a specific job, regardless of its intensity level, there is a need to increase the amount of oxygen in the human body. Each person has their own indicator of maximum oxygen consumption (MOC). The higher the MOC, the higher the working capacity, resistance to the influence of extreme factors. In men under 25 years of age, MOC is approximately 2.8-3.0 l/min, and in athletes - 5.0-6.0 l/min. Oxygen consumption increases with increasing load on the human body. People engaged in mental activity, even in a state of overwork, are able to perform their duties for a long time without a significant decrease in the level of working capacity and productivity.
Mostly people of mental activity are unable to turn off the information processing mechanism at night; they work not only 8-12 hours a day, but almost constantly with short switching. This is confirmation of the so-called informative theory, according to which a person, during sleep, processes information received during a period of active vigor.
Physical and mental activities require different levels of stress on certain functional systems of the body, so the load must be classified according to severity and intensity.
