Relax in the sauna for your health

Who said that everyone is equal in a bathhouse? Nothing like that! What kind of equality can we talk about if one person comes to the bathhouse to wash off the dirt, another to steam their bones in the steam room, and a third to reflect on the meaning of life in a friendly circle over a glass of good beer. The bathhouse, like the truth, has many faces. But bathhouse fans claim that a person, once joining the "philosophy of steam and broom", will not be able to live a week without their healing effects.
Bathhouse and Co.
Probably, the bathhouse arose at the moment when primitive man, splashing (accidentally or intentionally) water on hot stones, learned about the properties of hot steam, felt the joy of warmth and purity, a surge of strength and unusual lightness throughout the body.
It doesn't matter what the prehistoric bathhouse looked like (judging by the finds of archaeologists, it was a pit lined with hot stones). In the time of Louis XIV, for example, there were no baths at all. It is said that the King of France washed himself only twice in his life. It is not surprising that it was during his reign that the perfume industry began to develop rapidly...
Modern bathhouses differ greatly both in appearance and in essence - depending on which part of the world they are located.
A little about the “closest relatives”
For example, the humidity in a Finnish bath-sauna is low, and the temperature is very high. The human body tolerates it better than a steam room - it is easier to breathe in dry air. By the way, steaming with a broom in a sauna is not only illiterate, but also dangerous to health. A broom simply will not steam in dry hot air, and whipping yourself with hard rods is a dubious pleasure.
In a Turkish bath, the source of heat is the floor, heated to 50-60 degrees. You can walk on it only in special shoes with wooden soles. In their homeland, oriental baths are more of a place for relaxation and entertainment than a place for washing the body. Here they communicate, listen to music, sign business contracts, eat, receive massage sessions and, of course, wash themselves. Visiting the bathhouse (and representatives of the stronger sex go there most often) takes at least five to six hours. Roman-Irish baths consist of several rooms with different air temperatures. In the first room - the temperature is about 28 degrees, in the second - 30, and in the third reaches 50-60 degrees. Moreover, the air in the room is constantly renewed through a special system of pipes.
And if you, having found yourself in the Land of the Rising Sun, want to get acquainted with the local "bath" culture, get ready for the exotic. A Japanese bath is taken sitting in a wooden barrel, the water in which is heated by a special stove (oven). Instead of water, heated sawdust, grass, rice bran are sometimes placed in the barrel.
The union of steam and a broom
Why is it so easy and beneficial for the soul after a bath? Ask your skin for the answer. In the bath, it experiences a whole complex of influences - water, temperature change, soap foam, massage (with a washcloth and a broom). Naturally, the body reacts appropriately to all this. The pores of the sebaceous and sweat glands expand, along with sweat, toxins and metabolic products that have accumulated in the body leave the body. But at the same time, the skin does not experience a catastrophic lack of moisture, because steam is wet. In addition, under the influence of high temperature, blood circulation in the skin and in the subcutaneous fat layer accelerates. Waste substances are removed from the cells several times faster and useful substances enter. To foreigners who are not familiar with the Slavic bath ritual, a birch broom is more like a tool for sweeping the streets. In fact, a broom previously steamed in boiling water at the moment of contact with the skin contributes to the expansion and narrowing of blood vessels, has a tonic effect. But in order for the procedure to be beneficial, each twig in the broom should be 50-60 cm long and have a maximum of two or three branches. Simply put, the branch should be young and flexible - then it is easier to steam. And Birch brooms need to be harvested before the "earrings" appear on the tree. A broom with "earrings" is a find for a masochist. True, some prefer an oak or fir-tree broom, but you need to be very careful when steaming them for the first time.
Steam against kilograms
Many women believe in the miraculous ability to part with extra pounds by steaming in a bathhouse. During one visit to the steam room, without special care, you can lose from 0.5 to 1 liter of fluid. True, weight is usually quickly restored along with the fluid drunk after the bath.
You can purposefully lose weight using a bathhouse by a maximum of one or two kilograms. To do this, you need to visit this institution for several days in a row or spend more than one hour in the bathhouse. The main thing is to limit yourself in the amount of liquid you drink and in the consumption of salt, which retains water in the body. Cold drinks especially complicate the process of sweating.
There are several ways to increase sweating:
- rub yourself with salt, vodka, beer or honey;
- drink a little hot water with lemon juice;
- take half a glass of strawberry decoction with honey. But such methods are only suitable for owners of a healthy heart. And forced weight loss (more than 4 kg) can significantly worsen your well-being. During the period of dehydration of the body, hallucinations may appear and the activity of the heart may change. Is it worth taking such a risk, especially since doctors have accurately established: gradual weight loss is easier for the body to tolerate and has a longer-lasting effect.
A few rules for "exploitation" of steam
- It is better to schedule your first acquaintance with the bathhouse on a day off, planning the evening in advance - it should be free from festive events. After all, the bathhouse is a great stress on the body. The skin of the face after visiting the steam room will restore its normal color the next morning.
- In winter, do you usually ignore the headdress? But in this case, you need to make an exception: even if it is only -1°C outside, after the bathhouse it will be better to wear winter clothes.
- When going to the steam room, be sure to take rubber slippers with you. At home, you should rinse them with boiling water. This way you can avoid unpleasant diseases, which, according to all-knowing statistics, are more often acquired in the locker rooms of saunas, baths and swimming pools. Directly in the steam room, pathogens do not survive: fungal spores die at 37° C, and at a temperature of 39° C - most other microorganisms.
- Former bathhouse enthusiasts usually adhere to a certain order of visiting the steam room. Before entering it, it is better not to wash your head. In any case, it is worth tying it with a cotton or woolen scarf. First, they enter the steam room for 10-15 minutes to warm up. Then they rub themselves intensively in the washing room with a soaped washcloth. And only after that they steam in the bathhouse again with the main attribute - a broom. Moreover, the time spent in the steam room and the number of visits to it with alternating, bathing in the snow or in a cold pool depend exclusively on endurance and courage. They say that after the fifth or sixth "entry" the pores of the glands open so much that all the toxins "come out" of the body, and there is a feeling of fantastic lightness, almost weightlessness.
- If you are in the bath for the first time, do not try to catch up with the ardent amateurs in the duration of your stay in the steam room. To begin with, it is better to limit yourself to two or three minutes, and then enter again for five to seven minutes. This is provided that the bath is heated before your arrival.
- As a cosmetic bath product, you can use honey diluted with water, of course, if you are not allergic to it. This mixture should be applied to the skin of the face and neck before the second entry into the steam room. The skin will look healthier and matte. The same composition can be applied to rough heels before cleaning them.
If you immediately after the steam room wash yourself with cold water or rub your face with snow, the skin of your face will resemble a peach.
Recommendations:
- You should not visit the bathhouse on an empty stomach or after a heavy meal.
- You should not visit the bathhouse after drinking even a bottle of beer.
- It is not recommended to drink water or tea before or directly in the steam room.
- Those who have had a myocardial infarction, stroke, or people suffering from cardiovascular diseases should consult a doctor before such an event.
- You should not visit the bathhouse with acute diseases, especially if they are accompanied by high body temperature, if the disease has affected the ears and eyes.
- Peptic ulcer disease with a tendency to bleeding, severe inflammatory skin diseases, kidney failure, epilepsy, and cancer are categorical contraindications for visiting the bathhouse.
Where can you truly relax and take a break from your everyday routine? In a smoky cafe, at a loud disco or at home, in front of the TV? You guessed it! Only in a bathhouse, away from the hustle and bustle and aggression. People who regularly visit a bathhouse look much younger than others. The question: "How old are you?" never takes them by surprise. They can boldly throw off a few years and not be afraid that they will be accused of coquetry.
