The 3rd Horting World Championship took place in Daugavpils. Horting is a comprehensive discipline that combines striking and grappling techniques. Fighters use both hands and legs and often transition to ground fighting, employing chokeholds and joint locks. This blend of technical elements incorporates aspects of boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, karate, judo, and sambo, alongside other nuances that only specialists can fully decipher.
In the semi-final and final bouts, most competitors followed a strategy of shooting for the legs to take the opponent down and then applying a submission hold. Fighters step onto the *khort* (mat) wearing protective headgear and gloves. If no winner is determined after the first round—known as "Strength"—the opponents face each other without gloves or headgear in the second round, known as "Honor."
The championship featured a wide age range of participants, from the youngest—aged 6–7—to veterans. Additionally, Horting includes a category for simulated training routines—sequences of strikes, blocks, and techniques—which is highly beneficial for younger athletes; World Championship medals are awarded in this category as well.
As the discipline's country of origin and driving force, Ukraine easily won the team competition. A total of 80 sets of medals were awarded over the course of the three-day event. Lithuania took second place in the team standings, while Latvia finished third.
In total, approximately 250 athletes from 15 countries participated in the championship. The inaugural Horting World Championship was held in Poland in 2015, while the second was hosted by Truskavets, Ukraine. Daugavpils became the third city to host the world championships in this sport. Athletes and team representatives expressed their deep gratitude to DMITRIJS KABAKOVS (Daugavpils, Latvia), the official representative of the World Horting Federation in Latvia, for organizing and conducting the tournament.
