Truskavets hosted the 2nd World Horting Championship
Truskavets is, first of all, a city of health and beauty. There are many medical and recreational facilities here, where you can effectively improve your health, get a surge of new strength and a charge of positive energy. However, the key to good health is an active lifestyle, including sports. Therefore, it is not surprising that a wide variety of sports are developing and popularizing in our resort town at the national and international levels. And a vivid confirmation of this was the recent holding of the World Horting Championship in Truskavets.
Horting is a type of martial art, the name of which comes from the glorious island of Khortytsia. Horting originated in Ukraine, but became widely known outside our country. This comprehensive system of physical training for children and youth, due to its popularity, has received support among sports organizations and has been officially recognized as a sport in Ukraine since 2009. The main goal and task of horting is to popularize and increase the role of physical culture and sports, patriotic education, the revival of ancient folk martial traditions, the unification of advanced methods of training athletes in various types of martial arts, the study of effective self-defense techniques, etc.
On November 17-20, the II World Horting Championship was held at the Karpaty Recreation Complex in Truskavets. The resort town was chosen as the venue for this year's competition for a reason. This sport is actively developing in the Lviv region. There are many experienced coaches working here. Among them are Vitaly Plekhanov, Denis Ivanytskyi, and Irina Tsygan. The organizers of the World Championship were the International Horting Federation (IHF), headed by the international master of sports, honored coach of Ukraine Eduard Yeremenko. The Ukrainian Horting Federation and the Lviv Regional Horting Federation also joined the organization of the competition.
More than 450 athletes from 14 countries of the world (Ukraine, Poland, USA, Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Hungary, Moldova, Slovakia, Romania, Morocco) took part in the competition. The Ukrainian national team was represented at the tournament in the largest number – over 280 wrestlers. The program of the world championship was quite rich. The participants fought in 4 sections: “Exhibition”, “Form”, “Duel” and “Struggle”. The age of the athletes was from 10 years to 18+. The competitions were held in the following age categories – boys, cadets, juniors and adults. A feature of this year’s World Horting Championships in Truskavets was that for the first time children who were only 10 years old performed here. In previous years, athletes from 14 years old participated in international tournaments.
The grand opening of the 2nd World Horting Championship in Truskavets took place on November 17. The President of the World Horting Federation Eduard Yeromenko, the Mayor of Truskavets Andriy Kulchynsky, the General Director of the Karpaty State Recreational Complex Lev Hrytsak, the Head of the Organizing Committee of the Competition Vitaly Plekhanov and other officials delivered welcoming speeches. They all congratulated the participants of the competition, wished them successful performances and success in sports. Also on this day, after the registration of the participating teams, an official draw was held and the competitions of the participants in the “Form” and “Show performance” sections began, including the so-called “police horting”. The next two days (Friday - Saturday) the athletes fought in the “Struggle” and “Duel” sections. On Saturday evening and Sunday, the winners were awarded. In the team competition, Ukraine took 1st place, Belarus took 2nd place, and Moldova took 3rd place. The chief judge of the competition was Eduard Yeromenko.
“Horting is a national sport in Ukraine. It is actively developing and has offices in almost all cities. It combines different sports, it is interesting and dynamic. And it is very pleasing that interest in it is growing every year both at the state level and at the level of our youth,” said Eduard Yeremenko.
In conclusion, we would like to say that international events contribute to the promotion of our resort town among foreign citizens. The 2nd World Horting Championship in Truskavets was held at a high level. And this was greatly facilitated by the support of the tournament’s partners and sponsors. And the athletes demonstrated serious training and excellent results, even the youngest participants.
